Do-It-Yourself Facial Treatments

Why pay more for an adorable face? If you have no time to go to an expensive spa house to pamper yourself, then do it at home. This article is written for facial treatments only.

First and foremost, determine your skin type, is it oily, dry, or normal? After you have determined your skin type, just follow the steps below.

Facial Scrub

Dead skin cells make our face look tired and stressed out. So the first thing to do to revitalize your face is to scrub it to remove dead skin cells, oil, and dirt.

For rejuvenating facial scrub, just mix 2 tbsp. of honey with ½ tbsp sugar. Sugar will serve as the exfoliating beads. Cover your face with the mixture and rub your face in slow circular motion for 3-5 minutes. Let it set for 5 more minutes, rinse with warm water, and dry your face. Finally, finish up the rehydration process with 2-3 tbsp of cold milk, let it dry for 10 minutes, rinse and feel the new you!

Oily skin

Oil is necessary to prevent our skin from drying. Too much oil especially in our face can fry our sensitive face. Control it with the invigorating orange batter.

Make a mask by mixing ½ tbsp of four with ½ or 1 orange to make a thick paste. Thoroughly coat your face with the batter let it dry, then rinse with warm water.

Another trick that would help control oil is to head in your refrigerator and grab an egg. Freshen up your face with the egg white added with a bit of lemon. Relax and wait fir 30 minutes, rinse, and glow!

Vinegar is also another effective ingredient. Mix ½ cup of apple cider vinegar with ½ cup water. Wash your face with the solution, let it dry, rinse.

Dry skin

Dry skin could be hormonal problem or your sebaceous gland (oil gland) is not producing enough oil to moisturize your skin. So give yourself a fancy spa facial at the convenience of your home with mayonnaise. Just spread the mayo over your face, leave for 20 minutes, and rinse with cool water.

An egg yolk with a teaspoon of olive oil is another affordable and fantastic recipe to moisturize your face. Let the mask dry on your face for 10-15 minutes, rinse.

Avocado has essential oil that is very beneficial for dry skin type. Mash up one small fruit until smooth, gently massage it on your face and neck. Wait for 15 minutes then rinse with cold water.

Normal skin

You don’t have to spend an hour or two in a beauty salon just to get a facial treatment.

For a stimulating facial mask, simply use a banana. Right, as in b-a-n-a-n-a. Just mash 1 medium banana added with 2 tbsp honey. Let the mask dry for 20 minutes on your face and rinse with cold water.

Here’s another great recipe for your face, oatmeal. In a blender, blend together 1 chopped ripe tomato, 1 tbsp oatmeal, and 1 tsp lemon juice to make a paste. After cleansing your face pat the mask on your face and neck. Let it stay for 10-20 mins, rinse with warm water.

English-only Policy: Filipinoism

Language is a unique tool for communication. It helps us express ourselves, understands the structure of our culture, and adapts to our environment.

English is not our mother tongue however, we have heard, learned, and used it since we are still a babe.

Since we are working in a firm that provides services to foreign clients, most of them are speaking English, we should use English not only for the sake of ending the call right away but conveying our message with pride and confidence.

Filipinoism is a speech pattern common to Filipinos. We think in Filipino speech pattern then translate the words into English terms. This causes a seemingly confusing context to the listeners.  The way we speak English may be awkward for the English world to listen to. Of course their flow of thoughts is different from ours.

I. Flow of Thoughts

What is Beer Belly?

You may have heard the word “beer belly” so many times or know people (mostly men) that suffer from having it. Beer belly is a big wobbly belly attributed to the consumption of beer. But is it true?

A bottle of beer contains 150 calories. One bottle of beer every night adds up to 1,050 calories every week. But hold on a second, other people who drink beer almost everyday are not suffering from beer belly, and why mostly men suffer beer belly even if there are women who drink beer too but not showing a beer belly?

When we drink, it will make us hungry and usually will make us eat a lot. It is the excess calorie in our body that causes accumulation of fats in our abdominal area that leads to beer belly. Women gain fats mostly in their hips and thigh areas, on the other hand, men tend to gain fats in their abdomen. I am not saying that drinking beer is bad at all. Even though beer is not the main reason why other people have beer bellies, it is still disadvantageous to your health.

Beer is not really the culprit for having a beer belly. Other factors that may cause beer belly that you need to watch out for are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and liver diseases.

Exercise

If you are one of those who suffered beer belly you may be happy to know that there are many simple ways to get rid of that wobbly belly without spending money. Just follow these simple exercise at your own pace and convenience.

1. Thigh and Chest

The first thing to do is to burn fats from big muscles in our body – thigh and chest. Do a squat then push-up routine for 10-20 counts each, two to three rounds per session. Increasing the counting and number of rounds as your body gets used to it.

2. Cardio exercise

It is vital to strengthen our heart muscles to maintain proper blood circulation.

Run or jog for 15-30 minutes everyday. Do not forget to drink plenty of fluid before, during, and after the session.

3. Abdominal exercise

This is the crucial part since our abs needs to be tightened to get rid of that beer belly. Do curl-ups 15-20 times per day, increasing the number as soon as your body gets used to it. Please do not overdo it to prevent serious abdominal pains.

Diet

Remember that overeating or too much calories in our body leads to beer belly. So exercise together with proper diet is the key to a healthy body.

  • Eat fiber-rich food
  • Limit intake of sweets such as softdrinks
  • Eat nutritious food, not necessarily expensive
  • Limit carbohydrates

Social Gatherings

If you love to hang out with friends and drinking is your bonding session, here are some tips for your drinking session:

–         For alcohol punch, use fruit juice to counterbalance the effect of alcohol in your body

–         Eat plenty before you drink so that alcohol wont hit your system at once

–         Avoid salty snacks that makes you thirsty

–         Sip your drink slowly instead of guzzling it down

–         Dilute your drink with soda

–         Add ice cubes to keep it chilly and light

–         Alcohol is diuretic (elevates the rate of urination) so prevent dehydration by drinking more water after every glass of alcohol

Beer belly can be shameful, even if we love to drink, if we make our life balance we can still maintain a high self-esteem and continue to live a healthy life style.

Male and Female – The Painful Circumcision

The Bible book of Genesis clearly states God’s covenant to Moses that Moses will possess the land of Canaan, the promised land and He will become his God to time indefinite. To keep that covenant, God commanded Moses to circumcise all male members of Moses’s household, including Moses himself.

Genesis 17:12,13 reads: “And every male of YOURS eight days old must be circumcised, according to your generations, anyone born in the house and anyone purchased with money from any foreigner who is not from your seed. Every man born in your house and every man purchased with money of yours must without fail get circumcised; and my covenant in the flesh of YOU men must serve as a covenant to time indefinite.”

That is one of the reasons why most gentlemen in the whole world are circumcised. Circumcision is a surgical removal of the flap of the skin that covers the head (glans) of the penis. The procedure can be done even if the child is still one-day old. The use of this procedure even in adults continues to heat up debates in every land.

Although, other guys prefer not to be circumcised because of religious or personal reasons, circumcision also has medical benefits:

> Keeps the penis clean and odorless
> Decreases the risk of infection in the bladder or prostate glands
> Reduces risk of STD
> Prevents cancer of the penis
> Prevents Balanitis ( inflammation of the glans)
> Reduces risk of cervical cancer caused by Human Papilloma Virus that thrives in the foreskin which can be transmitted during unprotected sexual intercourse.

Most of us are so familiar with male circumcision, but what about female circumcision? It may sound odd for others but in some culture, female circumcision is a must. This is commonly called as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The practice is performed whether for religious, cultural, social, or other non-therapeutic reasons. The custom which is most common in Africa, involves partial or total removal of the external female genitalia. The World Health Organization categorizes these procedures based on how much tissue is removed:

1. Clitoridectomy- partial or total removal of the clitoris
2. Excision- partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minora (the inner fold of the vagina), with or without excision of the labia majora (the outer lip-like structure of the vulva)
3. Infibulation (pharaonic)- narrowing of the vaginal opening by stitching the labia majora, formed by cutting and repositioning the inner, or outer, labia, with or without removal of the clitoris
4. Other types: all other harmful procedures to the female genitalia for non-medical purposes, e.g. pricking, piercing, incising, scraping and cauterizing the genital area.

What are the risks of female circumcision?
> hemorrhage from the dorsal artery
> infection that may lead to death
> infertility
> risk of childbirth complications and newborn deaths
> painful sexual intercourse
> less sexual pleasure
> increased risk of urinary tract and bladder infection

Circumcision is still a debatable issue. Wherever you stand in terms of circumcision, whatever decisions, doubts, or questions you may have in your mind, rest assured that men and women in the whole world posed the same sentiments.

Things to Consider Before You Get Married

Marriage is not a word, it is a sentence – a life sentence. To tie the knot with someone you loved so dearly is everybody’s dream. We are proud to show the world that we found our partner, for a lifetime. A ring may symbolized that one person is someone’s possession, taken, and adored.

However, in the course of time, it is sad to say that many couples split up, families broken down, and relationships torn apart. Why? Because the reality is unlike the fairy tale stories that ends up with “…they lived happily ever after”, in a married life bumpy roads are always ahead of us.

So let me share with you a short activity and some questions that we all need to consider if we have plans to get married. Please answer them in an honest way as possible, because in the end it is you who will benefit with your answers.

Activity:

Step 1. While you were still single, I’m pretty sure that you have an ideal man or woman in your mind. You also dreamed of a person that has attributes that will measure up with your qualifications, right? Can you still recall those qualities that you are looking for in a mate? Please write it down because we are going to use them later. Let us call it as your Qualification List.

Step 2. Now, imagine you are still in a courtship stage, which means you are not engaged yet, try to list down top 10 qualities that you like about your partner and label it as your partner’s Quality List. Then compare them with the qualities that you have written down earlier.

Step 3. Evaluate your lists. After you have written down the Quality List about your partner and compared it with your Qualification  List, what did you find? Did he or she passed your qualifications?

Please note that what you have written down in your Qualification List and Quality List were all positive things.

Question: Did you consider some of his or her negative side before writing down the good qualities? Will all of your lover’s good qualities cover up for his or her negative side?

Here’s another thing to consider in your Quality List. I would ask you to override the 10th quality and write there the word IMPERFECTION.

Question: Are you willing to sacrifice for the rest of your life just to fill that IMPERFECTION up with your good qualities? Are you going to forget about the first 9 qualities just because he or she is imperfect?

This is just a very short activity yet if you are going to sit and think about it seriously, certainly you will reap a lot of benefits when the right time comes.
